An Australian labour tribunal on Sunday rejected an ‌application by Japanese gas company Inpex to halt a strike by some 400 oil and gas workers at its Ichthys LNG project.

Japan's Inpex said on Tuesday it would seek urgent orders from Australia's ​Fair Work Commission to halt protected industrial action at ‌its Ichthys liquefied natural gas facilities.

Offshore Alliance said on Monday that it had filed a ​complaint against Japan's Inpex with Australia's offshore energy regulator, alleging ‌that the company used unqualified workers to operate critical equipment at its Ichthys LNG facilities.

Workers will escalate the strike at Inpex's Ichthys LNG facilities in Australia that started last ​week over a wage dispute, after talks ‌failed to progress with the Japanese operator, the Offshore Alliance union said on Monday.

Australia's Offshore Alliance union said in a Facebook post ​on Tuesday that protected industrial action has begun ‌on all three of Inpex's Ichthys liquefied natural gas facilities in Australia.
