China's gold imports hit a monthly high in August, with the standout performance helping to push the country's gold imports to a record high over 1,100 tonnes year-to-date, China's General Administration of Customs announced on Tuesday.Imports of gold bullion through August surpassed the total for the whole of 2025, the latest customs data showed, marking the highest rate of imports since at least 2017.

Spot gold and silver prices are modestly lower in early U.S. trading Tuesday, as a firmer U.S. dollar and hawkish Federal Reserve commentary offset relief from another pullback in oil prices and Treasury yields.

Meridian Mining Plc (LSE:MNO, TSX:MNO, OTCQX:MRRDF) told investors that its Cabaçal gold-copper-silver project in Brazil has delivered an after-tax net present value of US$2.09 billion, a 108% internal rate of return and a payback period of less than one year.
